I wanted to make a cocktail with egg whites as this seasons Fall cocktail for no other reason than ‘it’s something new I wanted to try.’ If you’ve been here a while then you know I enjoy gin but I also enjoy whiskey. Today’s cocktail is an evolution of the whiskey sour known as the Boston sour. Read on for ingredients and how to make. Disclaimer: consuming egg whites has a very low risk of salmonella.

The Boston Sour (Whiskey Sour with Egg Whites)
2 ounces Whiskey of choice (the better the whiskey, the better the drink)
1 ounce Lemon juice (fresh is better)
3/4 ounce Simple syrup or maple syrup
1 Egg white
Garnish of choice (orange peel and cherry are recommended)
In a cocktail shaker combine the whiskey, lemon juice, sweetener (maple syrup or simple syrup) and egg white. Shake for 10-15 seconds. Then add ice and shake for an additional 10 seconds. Strain into a glass and garnish with an orange slice and cherries. You can add ice if you want to but I prefer it without.
The egg whites in this cocktail make it frothy, smooth and creamy. It’s enjoyable to drink and the egg white adds no flavor at all; it only changes the consistency.
