There are so many ideas floating around for photo shoots at home that I wanted to try them out! This style of photography has me re-living my college days and it’s been so fun. I urge you to try something new and have fun with it. The staging and prep are so fun for me! Of course the final result is amazing but I love to set it all up.
Check out my version of each trend below. Something to note: I took all these photos with my iPhone 11 Pro, edited in Lightroom and PicsArt.
Trend 1
Mirror Outside – I’ve seen this trend all over and it was the first trend I wanted to try out. Not too far from my house is a grassy area with large trees and a whole lot of dandelions. Even though they’re not the prettiest weeds, they worked for the photos to add some color. Some people have their phones in the photos but I knew I didn’t want to do that so I played with angles to keep my phone out of the shots.

Trend 2
In the Bathtub – These are also know and the milk bath shoots. I love the aesthetic so I decided to try it. I filled my bath, added milk and some flowers and BOOM! What do you think? I used a mix of real and fake flowers for this shoot. I had my phone on a selfie stick and held it above my head for all these shots. That is why you only see one of my arms.

Trend 3
Under the Sheets – This trend reminds me of sleepovers and camping. Using a flashlight to read scary stories, making forts and staying up way too late. I wanted to recreate that and this is how they turned out. I also played around with some graphics and added the movie film. I covered my light box with a sheet and sat underneath it. I had my phone on a tripod in front, set the timer and started posing.

Trend 4
Foreground props – I used a curtain that was hanging in my office and wrapped it around me. These yellow faux flowers were in my house so I grabbed those and got to shooting. I placed one branch closer to the camera and the other closer to my face to create more depth. I love how these turned out. For these shots I simply put my phone on a tripod and set the timer.

Trend 5
In Motion Shots – I wanted to showcase where I spend most of my time these days and to express how over it I am. (Quarantine, that is) I love the in action / motion shots. It makes the photo so much more interesting. It took so many takes to get the magazine pages to fill the space and to catch the popcorn falling. For these shots, I used the timer mode in Photo not Portrait. Your phone then takes 10 photos right in a row and you can select from the shots to pick the one that you want.

Trend 6
Tissue Paper – This trend is similar to the foreground props but the tissue paper border is meant to act like a blurred out border. I cut out a flower like shape, tapped it the front of my phone camera and away I went. I was able to use my bluetooth remote for these shots.

Trend 7
Polaroid – I’m so in love with this trend and could not wait to try it. I really enjoy the editing part of taking these photos. In these shots I manipulated some of the color and added areas of grayscale. You can edit in Lightroom or PicsArt. I used PicsArt for these. This trend is great for showcasing a pair of earrings to let them be the only area of color in the photo. I created the earring edit for a local boutique in my hometown. Thank you, Jasmine! You can! Some of these would be great photoshoot ideas with your boys. : )
These photoshoots are so fun!! I especially like how your mirror pics turned out – I agree, I like them without the phone a lot more. The tissue paper and polaroid ideas are also awesome! I hadn’t seen those trends before.
