5 Tips To Purge And Organize Your Makeup

5 Tips To Purge And Organize Your Makeup

Hello Loves! As I shared in my 3 goals I set for Spring post, I’m decluttering everything. That also includes my makeup collection. Below are the steps I took to purge what I didn’t need and cleaned up my makeup vanity area. It’s now a place I look forward to getting ready at each day. I have a large bathroom but only a small space dedicated to my makeup. I’m not a huge makeup guru and don’t need a whole lot to get by. Everything that I got rid of, that was not expired, was cleaned and donated. Check out the steps I took to declutter my makeup collection. Before images are on the left, after on the right.

1. Look for expired product

Yes, your makeup expires. It has a shelf life and no that is not for years. Get rid of what you haven’t touched in a while too.

2. Get rid of unnecessary duplicates

I have a million and 1 lipsticks that are all similar shades and I only wear about 4 of them. Time to pitch the unneeded, unwanted and unused! If I don’t like a product, why keep it. If I have 3 eyebrow products and only like 1, toss or donate the others. I have limited space and keeping all the extras serves me no purpose.

3. Purge trendy colors you will no longer wear

I have a few palettes of extremely shimmery and bright colors and no, I will never wear them again. It’s not worth keeping the whole palette for a ‘maybe, one day I might wear that’ scenario. The palettes I got rid of are also so old that I should probably get rid of them anyways. This also holds true for trendy lip colors, eye liners and single shade shadows.

4. Use up one product before buying another

This will help save space in your drawers and cabinets. I would buy 2 to 3 foundation bottles at once, in fear of running out, and they take up so much space. I know that I’m in town close to any store I need and can pick up another foundation at any time.

5. Use great storage and organizational tools

I bought most of my organizer trays from Home Goods. They always have jewelry organizers and drawer organizers on the shelves otherwise, I suggest Amazon. I use drawer organizers to keep each makeup product in order and that way I know where everything is. On top of my vanity I have a drawer organizer that keeps everything I use day to day. It’s quick to access and speeds up my mornings. I also set up the lipsticks that I rotate through the most.

What I got rid of

Not only did I get rid of a bunch of old, outdated, expired and dusty product but I was able to get rid of one whole storage container. I simplified what I have displayed and it looks so much less cluttered.
