The Tom Collins Cocktail. Who’s heard of it? Who’s had one? Who loves it? I have my mother to thank for my taste for gin. Now I know gin is a very acquired taste but I promise if you give this cocktail a try, you will love it. It’s crisp and refreshing and a great cocktail to enjoy in the hot summer months.
The Tom Collins Cocktail got it’s name after a joke made in 1874 all around New York City. You can read more about it here. It is made with gin, simple syrup, club soda and lemon juice and has evolved a little over the years. The recipe I followed is below.
Tom Collins Cocktail Recipe
1 1/2 cups ice
2 fluid ounces gin
3/4 fluid ounces lemon juice
1/2 fluid ounces simple syrup
2 fluid ounces club soda
Fill a glass with ice to chill and set aside. Combine gin, simple syrup and lemon juice into a shaker. Add 1 cup of ice and shake until chilled. Strain mixture into chilled glass. Top with club soda and lemon wedge. Enjoy!
You can either keep the ice in the glass or enjoy without, so your cocktail does not get watered down. I add a fresh squeeze of lemon juice from my lemon garnish and enjoy outside on the porch.
I hope you all enjoyed this summer cocktail recipe. What are some fun summer cocktails that you enjoy making? Let me know in the comments below. Thank you all so much for reading. Until next time,
